Koenig Posts Fastest Time in Stage One of the
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race
Jackson Hole, Wyoming—January 26, 2002—Martin Koenig of
Seeley Lake, Montana, posted the fastest time in stage one of the
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR), running the
three-mile course in 00:06:12. Matt Weik of Outing, Minnesota, was second
with 00:08:46; followed by Doug Swingley of Lincoln, Montana, in third with
0:09:20.
Crowds lining the race route, including many canine
spectators, came to cheer on the mushers in the 7th annual
IPSSSDR which began today in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Eighteen teams left the
starting line in 2-minute intervals on stage one of the 10-day race that
travels through 456 miles of Wyoming backcountry. With its unique stage
stop racing format, the IPSSSDR stops in a different Wyoming community each
night. The 2002 race will travel through Moran, Dubois, Pinedale, Lander,
Evanston, Mountain View, Lyman, Kemmerer/Diamondville and Alpine before
returning to Jackson Hole on February 6.
During the 12-day race, Pedigree will host a daily web
cast on www.pedigree.com, that will
feature video footage of the race. Through Homeward Bound, a national pet
adoption support program, Pedigree will make a donation to animal shelters
for each visitor to the site during the race.
The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race was
founded in 1996 by Frank Teasley to make sled dog racing more accessible to
the public. The event is supported by a number of Wyoming businesses
including Union Cellular, Bank of Jackson Hole and JacksonHoleNet.com. For
