Beck Wins Stage Four of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race; Streeper Leads Overall

 

Pinedale, Wyoming—January 28, 2004—Grant Beck from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, had the fastest time in Stage Four of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race with a time of 2:20:50. Jacques Philip from Nenana, Alaska, was second in 2:21:01;  Blaine “Buddy” Streeper from Fort Nelson, British Columbia, came in third with a time 2:21:25.

            Streeper maintains the overall lead with a cumulative time of 14:05:50.  Melanie Shirilla from Lincoln, Montana, remains in second place with a cumulative time of 14:35:38.  Sam Perrino moves into third with a cumulative time of 14:38:20.

At 9:00 a.m., teams set out on the 30-mile course in four inches of fresh snow from the Green River Lakes parking lot outside Pinedale.  Following the race, mushers drove to Lander for a pizza social.

Stage Five begins at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, January 29, at Bruce’s Bridge outside Lander.

With its unique “Stage Stop” racing format, the race stops in a different Wyoming community each night including Kemmerer/Diamondville, Evanston, Mountain View/Lyman, Alpine, Pinedale and Lander.  The race finishes at Teton Village in Jackson Hole on Friday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Jr. Stage Stop at 1:00 p.m.

         Pedigree® Food for Dogs is the title sponsor of the IPSSSDR. During the 2004 IPSSSDR, Pedigree will host a daily web cast on its web site, www.pedigree.com, that features video footage of the race. To support local pet adoption efforts, Pedigree makes a donation to animal shelters nationwide for each visitor to the site during the race.
