Posts Fastest Time in Stage Five of the International Pedigree Stage Stop
Sled Dog Race; Streeper Stays in Overall Lead
Lander, Wyoming—January
29, 2004—Melanie Shirilla from Lincoln, Montana, won Stage Five of the
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race with at time of 4:04:59.
Blaine “Buddy” Streeper from Fort Nelson, British Columbia, was second
with 4:06:19; Sam Perrino, from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, was
third with 4:13:20.
Streeper leads
with an overall time of 18:12:09. Shirilla is second with 18:40:37;
Perrino is third with 18:51:40.
At 9:00 a.m., mushers
departed on 52-mile route beginning at Bruce’s Bridge outside Lander.
Following today’s stage, teams drove to Jackson where they will complete
the final stage on Friday, January 30, 2004, at 11:00 a.m.
Following Friday’s
conclusion of the IPSSSDR, at 1:00 p.m. at Teton Village, students ages
8-14 from nine Wyoming communities will participate in the IPSSSDR Jr.
Stage Stop. Each community on the 2004 IPSSSDR route--Jackson, Kemmerer/Diamondville,
Mountain View/Evanston/Lyman, Alpine, Pinedale, Lander—is eligible to send
three students to represent their towns in this short exhibition fun run.

for Dogs is the title sponsor of the IPSSSDR. During the 2004 IPSSSDR,
Pedigree will host a daily web cast on its web site, www.pedigree.com,
that features video footage of the race. To support local pet adoption
efforts, Pedigree makes a donation to animal shelters nationwide for each
visitor to the site during the race.
The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race was
founded in 1996 by Frank Teasley to make sled dog racing more accessible
