Maquieira Posts Fastest Time in Day Two of
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race
Jackson,
Wyoming—Hernan Maquieira from Argentina, posted the fastest time on Day Two of the
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race
(IPSSSDR), in 3:53:39. He averaged 13.4 miles per hour
on the 53-mile course that departed from Bruce’s Bridge
at Sinks Canyon outside Lander and traveled through the
Wind River Mountains.
Jacques
Philip of Nenana, Alaska, came in second with a time of
4:02:43. Melanie Shirilla of Lincoln, Montana, came in
third in 4:06:42.
Day
Three begins Monday, January 31, at noon at Elk Ridge
Lodge in the Upper Green River. Following the race,
teams will camp out at Elk Ridge Lodge, then depart from
there on Day Four, Tuesday, February 1, at 9:00 a.m. and
race a 33-mile stage to Pinedale.
Nineteen
teams are competing in the 2005 IPSSSDR—the largest sled
dog race in the lower 48 states. With its unique “Stage
Stop” racing format, the race stops in a different
community each night from January 28 through February 5,
2005, beginning in Jackson, then on to Lander, Pinedale,
Alpine, Kemmerer/Diamondville, Evanston, and
Lyman/Mountain View before arriving in Park City, Utah
for the final stage and award ceremony on Feb. 5th.
