2, 2005— Hernan Maquieira from Argentina, posted the fastest time in Day Five of the
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR)
in 3:32:43. Maquieira averaged 16.4 miles per hour on
the 60-mile stage up the Greys River.
Jacques
Philip from Nenana, Alaska, was second in 3:34:00.
Michael Salvisberg from Haines Junction, Canada, placed
third in 3:46:37.
In
overall times, Maquieira leads with 12:51:16. Philip is
second with 12:57:30. Melanie Shirilla from Lincoln,
Montana, is third with 13:28:13.
Day Six
begins at 9:00 a.m. outside Kemmerer at Lake Viva
Naughton, a 53-mile course
Nineteen
teams are competing in the 2005 IPSSSDR—the largest sled
dog race in the lower 48 states. With its unique “Stage
Stop” racing format, the race stops in a different
community each night from January 28 through February 5,
2005, beginning in Jackson, then on to Lander, Pinedale,
Alpine, Kemmerer/Diamondville, Evanston, and
Lyman/Mountain View before arriving in Park City, Utah
for the final stage and award ceremony on Feb. 5th.
