Tenth IPSSSDR Begins on Friday, January 28
Jackson, Wyoming—The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race
(IPSSSDR) celebrates its tenth year on Friday, January 28 with a new
time and a new route through Jackson to Phil Baux Park next to Snow
King. The race begins at 7:00 p.m. on the Town Square, with the first
sleds driven by Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal and the Mayor of
Jackson, Mark Barron, who issued a proclamation in honor of the event.
Pre-race festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. when the IPSSSDR teams draw for
their starting positions. In addition, The Wort Hotel will host a
family-friendly party showing IPSSSDR videos from previous years and
serving complimentary beverages, the Historic Downtown Business
Association merchants (identified by balloons on their doors) will serve
hot beverages, and Jackson galleries will host a gallery stroll.
Following the race conclusion at Snow King, The Jackson Hole Winter
Carnival and Snow King will host a night of events for the whole family,
including a party at Snow King Center’s Lodge Room with a DJ and
dancing. IPSSSDR title sponsor Pedigree will offer a reception with
complimentary hot beverages at 7:45 p.m.; King Tubes and the Ice Arena
will offer special rates and later hours; and a torchlight parade
followed by a fireworks display on Snow King Mountain will cap off the
evening. All events are open to the public.
START will run a shuttle every 15 minutes from 7:30 p.m. through 10:00
p.m. from the Town Square to the corner of Snow King and Cache streets.
The shuttle will help alleviate traffic congestion as spectators ride
from the Race Start to the Race Finish and enjoy the festivities at Snow
King.
Earlier this week, Mayor Barron issued a proclamation naming January
28th in honor of the IPSSSDR tenth anniversary:
….Whereas, as this is the 10th Anniversary of the International Pedigree
Stage Stop Sled Dog Race Governor Freudenthal of Wyoming will drive the
first sled on Friday, January 28th in celebration of the event,
culminating in a Winter Carnival at the base of Snow King Mountain, and;
now therefore I, Mark Barron, Mayor of the Town of Jackson, on behalf of
the entire Town Council and the Jackson community do hereby thank and
recognize race creators Frank Teasley and Jayne Ottman, and congratulate
them on a decade of success.
The IPSSSDR, the largest sled dog race in the lower 48, begins in
Jackson, and travels through stage stops in Lander, Pinedale, Alpine,
Kemmerer/Diamondville, Evanston, and Lyman/Mountain View before arriving
in Park City, Utah for the final stage and award ceremony on February 5.
With its unique “stage stop” racing format, the race stops in a
different community each night, keeping the event dog friendly. Each
town plans festivities for mushers and spectators ranging from junior
dog sled races for children, dog parades, and ice sculpture contests, to
banquets, carnivals, and snow shoe softball.
Pedigree® Food for Dogs is the title sponsor of the IPSSSDR. The
Pedigree® brand actively supports a wide range of programs that promote
responsible pet ownership and highlight the contributions dogs make to
society.
