International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog
Race Mushers Win Awards for Sportsmanship and
Achievement
Jackson, Wyoming--Hernan Maquieira from Ushuaia,
Argentina, and Joe Loveless from Roy, Washington,
are the recipients of two awards presented by
sponsors of the 2005 International Pedigree Stage
Stop Sled Dog Race.

2005 Mushers and Officials
Pedigree Food for Dogs awarded Loveless with the
“Sportsmanship Award.” The Sportsmanship Award is
presented to a musher who exemplifies good
sportsmanship during the 8-day International
Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race. Veterinarians
and fellow mushers make nominations for the winner
of this award. Loveless was the hands down winner
of the 2005 event due to “his fantastic attitude
when faced with daily challenges,” according to race
director Frank Teasley. He received a plaque and
1,000 pounds of Pedigree Food For Dogs.
Maquieira was the recipient of the Achievement Award
presented by Dog World Magazine. This was the first
year the Achievement Award was presented to the
musher who has demonstrated the highest level of
achievement in his racing career. Maquieira first
came to Wyoming in 2003 as a handler for Lloyd
Gilbertson’s team and he went on to win the 2005
IPSSSDR.
