International
Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race Announces 2006 Dates
Jackson,
Wyoming—October
17, 2005—This
year’s International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) is slated
for January 27 through
February 4, 2006,
announced Race Director Frank Teasley. The race begins
January 27 with a send-off at the Jackson Hole Winter Carnival complete with
a bonfire, fireworks show, music, and food booths, before heading for
Lander, Cora, Pinedale, Alpine, Kemmerer,
Evanston,
and Mountain View/Lyman in
Wyoming,
and
Park
City
in
Utah.
“I’m anticipating another
exciting race in 2006,” Teasley said. “From the
applications I’ve received, it looks as if we’ll be hosting some of the
world’s best mushers once again.”
The IPSSSDR is a popular
race on the professional mushing circuit. Taking place
between
Europe’s
La Grande Odyssée and
Alaska’s
Iditarod, it attracts top mushers who like to compete in all three events.
Now in its 11th year, the IPSSSDR has become the largest
sled dog race in the lower 48 states.
With its unique “stage
stop” racing format, the race stops in a different community each night.
Wyoming’s
small towns host festivities for mushers and spectators that range from
banquets, barbeques, pancake feeds, snowshoe softball, dog parades and ice
sculpture demonstrations.
The IPSSSDR is limited
to 30 teams. Previous IPSSSDR champions include Rick Swenson, Alaska, 1996;
Hans Gatt, Austria, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001; Jeff King, Alaska, 1999; Melanie
Shirilla, Montana, 2002; Gwen Holdmann, Alaska, 2003; Blaine “Buddy”
Streeper, British Columbia, 2004; and Hernan Maquieira,
Argentina, 2005.
Pedigree® Food for Dogs
is the title sponsor of the IPSSSDR. The Pedigree® brand
actively supports a wide range of programs that promote responsible pet
ownership and highlight the contributions dogs make to society.
