Davis Posts Fastest Time in IPSSSDR Day Four; Maintains Overall Lead
Jackson, Wyoming—January 29, 2008—Wendy Davis of Lander, Wyo., posted the fastest time in day four of the International
Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) completing the 52-mile stage in 6:10:22. Melanie Shirilla of Lincoln, Mont., finished the day
in second with a time of 6:11:11. Canadian musher Sam Perrino of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, was third with 6:17:40.
In overall times, Davis maintains her lead with 14:03:21; Shirilla is second with 14:22:08; and Jacques Philip of Nenana, Alaska,
is third with 14:39:37.
Teams departed from Middle Piney Parking Lot, 13 miles west of the town of Big Piney. Extreme weather made race conditions challenging as
teams fought blowing snow and gusting winds.
On Wednesday, January 30 the race will make a 60-mile loop from Alpine on the Greys River Trail to Box Y Guest Ranch before returning to
Alpine. Teams race from Kemmerer/Diamondville, departing from Lake Viva Naughton, on Thursday, January 31; on February 1 they compete in the
Bridger Valley Stage then finish in Park City, Utah, with the final stage and awards ceremony on February 2.
With its unique “stage stop” racing format, the IPSSSDR stops in a different community each night, allowing Wyoming’s host towns to show
their hospitality: Festivities on offer for mushers and spectators alike include pancake feeds, dog parades, banquets, carnivals, and snowshoe softball.
