Wyoming Sled Dog Race Announces "Follow the Lead Teacher" program

Jackson, Wyoming – January 8, 2009 – Cheryl Lowham, a Uinta County seventh-grade teacher teacher, has been chosen as the first "Follow the Lead Teacher," on the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR), announced race director Frank Teasley. The new program, which runs concurrently with this year's January 30 – February 7, 2009 race dates, allows a Wyoming teacher to transform the race into a fun online learning experience for kids.

Lowham, who has taken her seventh-grade students to watch the race for several years, says, "I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be the first teacher in this program. The IPSSSDR is not only fun, it’s a terrific education tool with many applications for the classroom."

A middle school teacher for 24 years, Lowham will be at each stage of the 2009 IPSSSDR, observing, volunteering and learning firsthand about sled dog racing. At the end of each day she will post a web update about the race, including her daily diary, pictures, lesson plans, puzzles and links.
