Bank of Jackson Hole Presents Old Stager Award to Sandy and Jerry Bath
Couple honored for 15 years of IPSSSDR community support
Jackson, Wyoming – February 1, 2010 – Sandy and Jerry Bath of Lander, Wyo., received the Old Stager Award, presented by the Bank of Jackson Hole during the ceremonies following the first stage of the 2010 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) in Jackson on January 29. The award was created by the Bank of Jackson Hole—a sponsor of the IPSSSDR from its inception—to recognize the mushers and community supporters who have helped make the race a success during the past 15 years.
In addition to being the IPSSSDR chairpersons of Lander, the Baths expanded their participation in the race in 2009 when Jerry signed up as a musher with Sandy as his handler. The Bath team came in fifth for that first IPSSSDR run and is competing again in the 2010 race.
Old Stager Award winners are traditionally presented with memorial photos. A framed photograph by Jackson, Wyo., photographer Chris Havener of Jerry Bath and his team taken during the 2009 IPSSSDR was presented to the Baths as the 2010 award.
"We like to present the winner of the Old Stager Award with a photograph to remind them of the race," said Phil Newcomb, the bank's Senior Vice President. "The picture of Jerry mushing with his team during the 2009 IPSSSDR will be a reminder for him of his excellent finish in that first race."
Jerry Bath got started in sled dog racing by watching the first IPSSSDR and helping with the Lander leg. "Last year was the most fun I've had in eight days in a long time," Jerry said of his 2009 racing experience. "The level of sportsmanship and professionalism was outstanding. Half of my team last year was yearlings so I'm really looking forward to this year's race." The parents of two sons, Ben, 26, and Rick, 23, Jerry and Sandy have lived in Wyoming for 15 years.
The Bank of Jackson Hole is a locally owned and locally managed independent bank headquartered in Jackson, with branches in Dubois, Alpine and Pinedale, Wyo.
