Jackson, Wyoming – October 25, 2010 – Terri Arnell from Evanston, Wyo., has been chosen as "Follow the Lead Teacher" for the 2011 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR), announced race director Frank Teasley. The Follow the Lead Teacher program, which runs concurrently with this year’s January 28 – February 5, 2011 race, selects someone to accompany the race and report to students from the trail on Facebook and Twitter, transforming the event into a fun online learning experience for kids.
Arnell, who works in the City of Evanston Planning Department, is enthusiastic about her race role. "Although I am not a formal educator, I am thrilled to bring my interest in sled dog racing to classrooms," she says.
In addition to being the "Follow the Lead Teacher,”" Arnell is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Uinta County Stage Stop Sled Dog Race and coordinates the IPSSSDR Junior Musher Race. Information about the 2011 Junior Musher program can be found at http://www.wyomingstagestop.org/juniormusher.htm.
An active advocate of animal rights, Arnell is a huge supporter of the IPSSSDR and its aspect of treating the dogs in a humane manner. She is looking forward to learning more about the sport of sled dog racing and sharing that knowledge with others.
On the race, Arnell will post Facebook and Twitter updates from the trail as well as information on the IPSSSDR website at http://www.wyomingstagestop.org/leadteacher.htm and at the City of Evanston website at www.evanstonwy.org. Students and teachers can contact her via email at ipsssdrteacher@yahoo.com.
The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race was founded in 1996 by Frank Teasley to make sled dog racing more accessible to the public. For more information, visit the race website at http://www.wyomingstagestop.org; the race is also active on Facebook under International Pedigree Stage Stop and on Twitter at @IPSSSDR.
