RE: Contingencies & alternate procedures related to the 2021 Pedigree Stage Stop Race resulting from possible scenarios related to COVID-19.

Greetings,

Thank you for your interest in the 2021 Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race. Like all current organizers of sporting events, we at the Stage Stop have been keeping a close eye the COVID-19 outbreak and considering how the 2021 race may, or may not be impacted. In that regard, we wanted to share our perspective and provide you with some information that should assist you in your decision to submit your application for the 2021 race.

Our intent is to move forward with the 2021 Stage Stop Race in a manner that is consistent with all Federal, State, & Local guidelines. Since these guidelines are changing as new information and situations arise, we are remaining flexible and adaptive as more information becomes available. Please review the information below and consider it an addendum to the rules & regulation and the official position of the race organization.

RACE APPLICATION DATES:

The first round of entries for 2021 will begin on September 1st, 2020. This will allow everyone another few weeks to monitor the COVID-19 situation. For detailed information on entry dates, please see Section 1 – PRE-COMPETITION PROCEDURES AND ENTRY INFORMATION in the 2021 Rules & Regulations which can be found in the musher information section of the website.

MODIFICATIONS TO ENTRY FEE REFUNDS:

In order to provide serious applicants greater confidence in submitting an application for the 2021 race, we have amended our entry fee refund policy. The following changes are now in effect for the 2021 race. All scenarios will be verified.

  • Entry fees will be refunded if the race is cancelled prior to the start of stage one.
  • An entry fee will be refunded if a musher is not able to enter the United States because of border crossing restrictions related to COVID-19.
  • An entry fee refund will be granted if a musher tests positive for COVID-19 prior to the start of the race. If any entered musher tests positive for COVID-19 and is then verifiably recovered, they will be remain eligible to compete.
  • An entry fee is eligible for a refund if anyone cohabitating with an entered musher tests positive for COVID-19 prior to the start of 2021 race.

IF THE RACE IS CANCELED AFTER IT STARTS:

Although unlikely, the following parameters will be in place in the event that the race is cancelled due to a COVID-19 related scenario after it starts. In the below scenarios, the ceremonial start will not be considered a “stage”.

  • If four stages of the race are completed and the remaining stages are then cancelled, the race will be considered complete with four days of day money and 100% of the eligible overall purse being paid out based on daily and overall results. A champion will be declared and their name will be added to the Champions Trophy.
  • If three stages of the race are completed and the remaining stages are then cancelled, the race will end. Three days of day money will be paid out as well as 75% of the eligible overall purse. All payout will be based on daily and overall results. No champion will be declared.
  • If two stages of the race are completed and the remaining stages are then cancelled, the race will end. Two days of day money will be paid out as well as 50% of the eligible overall purse. All payout will be based on daily and overall results. No champion will be declared.
  • If one stage of the race is completed and the remaining stages are then cancelled, the race will end. One day of day money will be paid out as well as 25% of the eligible overall purse. All payout will be based on daily and overall results. No champion will be declared.
  • Musher Support Program money will be paid out in the same manner and percentages as the overall purse.
